IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna The first part of the Policlinico di Sant’Orsola hospital was built in 1592. It is now the home of the University of Bologna’s School of Medicine and Surgery.

The Policlinico di Sant’Orsola has over 2,345 active clinical studies and over 1,897 publications in national and international specialized journals. It is also a Hospitalization Institute and Scientific Care in the two research areas where Bologna is already a national point of reference.

Every day, about 20,000 people, including workers, university students and professors, patients, visitors, and suppliers, go to the Polyclinic. The Polyclinic is a place where people from all over the world go to get information about different diseases.

The internal organization is made up of Departments with integrated activities (hospital and university). This type of organization makes it possible for the 87 Operating Units to help people, give classes, and do research. It has 1,515 beds and a staff of 6,807, which includes researchers and university doctors. Each year, about 49,000 people are hospitalized and over 3,300,000 outpatients get specialist care.
