Scroll DownAt the RWTH Aachen University Hospital, we offer you top-notch treatment with a personal touch because we are a university hospital. The unique way that patient care, research, and education are all done under one roof is both architecturally and organizationally unique. This means that we can have a lot of conversations across disciplines and close clinical and scientific networks.
When the medical school opened on June 18, 1966, the hospital went from being a city hospital to a university hospital. It was clear right away that a new building was needed because there wasn’t enough space and the number of patients was rising quickly. In 1971, work began on a new building based on a plan by Aachen architects Weber & Brand.
In 1982, the teachers moved into the new building after it had been built for more than ten years. The formal opening then happened on March 21, 1985. People were hesitant at first because of how big and expensive the building was, but now they know that this is a place where high-performance medicine is used to help patients. Patients, the general public, cooperating resident doctors, and hospitals in the Aachen area all agree with this opinion, which is good. But the RWTH Aachen University Hospital also has a great name outside of its own country.
Buildings and architecture
The thought of putting teaching, research, and care for patients all under one roof is something that has never been done before in Germany. Since the medical school moved into the house in 1984, almost all of its services have been kept here.
We are able to demonstrate our dedication to providing care that is centered on the needs of the patient and highlight the positive difference that we have made in the lives of our patients.
